A Closer Look at Pipe Bursting

Pipe bursting, as the name implies, involves breaking and expanding the existing, damaged pipe while simultaneously replacing it with a new one. This technique uses a conical, steel bursting head attached to a new pipe which is  hydraulically pulled through the existing pipe. As it moves, it breaks apart the old pipe and pushes the fragments into the surrounding soil, while the new pipe is pulled into place behind it. This method is gaining popularity because it's a trenchless technology, meaning it requires minimal digging. It's particularly effective when dealing with severely damaged pipes that can't be repaired using other methods, such as relining.

Exploring Pipe Lining Technology

Pipelining involves creating a new pipe inside the existing one. It's a popular choice for repairing minor leaks or damage without having to replace the entire pipe. The process begins with a thorough cleaning and inspection of the existing pipe. Once it's prepared, a flexible liner coated with resin is inserted into the pipe. The liner is then inflated, pressing the resin against the pipe's interior. The resin is left to cure, forming a solid, seamless pipe within a pipe. This technique is minimally invasive and helps to preserve your landscaping and outdoor structures. It's effective for fixing small leaks and cracks, making it an excellent preventative measure that can extend the life of your pipes since the new resin pipe is highly resistant to common issues like corrosion and tree root intrusion.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Pipe Repair Method

Now that we've outlined the two methods, how do you decide which one is best for your needs? Here are some key factors to consider:

  • Extent of Damage: If your pipes are severely damaged, bursting may be the better option as it allows for a complete replacement. On the other hand, if your pipes have minor damage or small leaks, lining can be an effective and less costly repair method.
  • Pipe Material: Some pipe materials are better suited to certain methods. For example, cast iron and clay pipes often respond better to bursting, while PVC pipes may be more compatible with lining.
  • Location: If the pipes are located under structures such as your house or driveway, trenchless methods can save you from costly and disruptive excavation.
  • Budget: Although both methods are likely to be more cost-effective in the long term than traditional repair due to less property disruption, pipe lining might be the cheaper option if your pipes only have minor damage.
  • Local Regulations: Some local regulations may limit the pipe repair methods you can use, so it's important to check this before making a decision.

No matter which method seems more suitable, you should always consult with a professional plumber. They can inspect your pipes, evaluate your unique situation, and advise on the best options for your unique circumstances.

Unfortunately, High Speed plumbing was my 2nd call. The first guy to arrive said the whole toilet... seat and tank needed to be replaced, and it would cost $$$$. I believed it was the flapper valve, so I sent them on their way. Ron,  and his helper Jaime, arrived from High Speed... took a look, told me it's your flapper valve... and it'll cost $$. 10 minutes later they were done and gone. Solid, respectful, and professional!!!

Found a slab leak steaming from my garage near my water heater on a Thursday evening. Chris was on the job by 9:30 am on Friday. He was extremely knowledgeable and professional and took the time to include me in all that was doing. Cesar showed up midway through the job to lend Chris a hand and both gentlemen did FANTASTIC work! I will most definitely be calling them again for any future work I may need! Update: We had a second leak in a different area of the house on Sunday. Made a call and Ron came out to solve that problem efficiently and professionally. Can’t say enough the great work that team does over at High Speed Plumbing. So glad I made that initial call!

Called Juan at night about a gas leak the Gas Co, found that caused the Gas Co to red tag the meter and shut it off. Juan sent Christopher the next morning. He is a great guy with a great attitude and super professional skill. His ethics are high. High Speed I was told is a term used in military(veteran owned and staffed company) that denotes someone who is quick, resourceful and accurate at getting issues dealt with. By that standard Chris is definitely a "high speed" Thank you and may God Bless you and your Company  :-)

Same day service inspection and estimate was provided.  Service was offered same day, but we scheduled it to fit our convenience and they were very accommodating.   New tankless water heater installed and old water tank removed.  Roof venting work performed as well.  No complaints.  Happy to use them in the future.

John, Service Manager was very knowledgeable, professional and a very pleasant gentleman.  He assessed our plumbing issues and recommended that a restoration company come out and access the water damage due to ongoing toilet/piping issue from our upstairs restroom.  It's been running into our kitchen cabinet downstairs.  Luckily, our home insurance guy called while the John was still here.  John was able to give the Adjuster the information needed to have Service Master's come out tonight to assessment the water damage. I'm so grateful that John took the time to explain and show me the issues we were having. . John, you were truly heaven sent.  Your honesty and direction was much appreciated. Thank you.
