Our plumbing systems are often overlooked and taken for granted until something goes wrong with them. When your toilet, unfortunately, malfunctions, then you’ll want to know some ways to try to fix it. Most of us have had a clogged toilet at one time or another and if you don’t know where to start then consider these tips!
Plungers are probably the simplest and easiest way to unclog a toilet. Most people have a plumber in their household for this reason.
Plungers work by creating a seal around the opening of the drain, pushing air into the drain repeatedly and thus hopefully unblocking the drain, so you can get back to business as usual. If for any reason you don’t have a plunger in your house, try the following ways to unclog your toilet.
Using dish soap is a way to hopefully make the sides of your drain slippery and unclog the drain. To use this method first, pour half a cup of dish soap into your toilet and see if that alone loosens the clog. If it doesn’t, heat some water and slowly pour that into your toilet. The force of the additional water and the dish soap should work together to unblock your drain.
Another method of unclogging a toilet is to snake the drain. This method may also be handy even if you have a plunger and that method does not work. A toilet snake is less than $10 and you only need to buy it once. Note: toilet snakes are different from regular drain snakes because they have protective sleeves around the metal so as to not scratch the bowl of your toilet, so it is recommended that you don’t try to use the same snake you would use to unclog your shower or sink.
Toilet snakes can be useful for more severe blockages that require manual movement, while this method is messier than the others because it is more hands-on, it is certainly better than using your hands. That being said, if you want to avoid the mess altogether you can do so by calling a affordable plumbers at High Speed Plumbing.
Baking soda and vinegar create a chemical reaction together, for an all-natural solution that will hopefully dislodge anything blocking your drain. These 2 ingredients together are staples in DIY solutions for cleaning and unclogging many things around your house, like your sink and garbage disposal.
Start with 1 cup of baking soda and 2 cups of vinegar, and allow it to fizz for half an hour. If your toilet is still clogged try pouring some hot water into the toilet.
If these solutions don’t fix the problem or you don’t have the time to try them all, then call the skillful plumbers at High Speed Plumbing.
